DOWN WENT MCGINTY

Sunday morning just at nine, Dan McGinty dressed so fine

Stood looking at a very high stone wall,

When his friend, young Pat McCann, says, "I'll bet five dollars, Dan

I could carry you to the top without a fall."

So on his shoulders he took Dan, to climb the ladder he began,

And soon commenced to reach up near the top;

When McGinty, cute old rogue, to win the five he did let go

Never thinking just how far he'd have to drop.

Down went McGinty to the bottom of the wall

And tho' he won the five, he was more dead than alive

Sure his ribs and nose and back were broke from getting such a fall

Dressed in his best suit of clothes.



From the hospital Mac went home, when they fixed his broken bones,

To find he was the father of a child;

So to celebrate it right, his friends he went to invite,

An@ soon he was drinking whiskey fast and wild;

Then he waddled down the street in his Sunday suit so neat

Holdlng up his head as proud as John the Great;

But in the sidewalk was a hole, to receive a ton of coal,

That McGinty never saw till just too late.



Down went McGinty to the bottom of the hole,

Then the driver of the cart gave the load of coal a start

And it took us half an hour to dig McGinty from the coal,

Dress'd in his best suit of clothes.



Now McG@nty raved and swore, about his clothes he felt so sore

And an oath he took he'd kill the man or die;

So he tightly grabbed his stick and hit the driver a lick,

Then he raised a little shanty on his eye.

But two policemen saw the muss and they soon joined in the fuss

Then they ran McGinty in for being drunk;

And the Judge says with a smile, we will keep you for a while

In a cell to sleep upon a prison bunk.

Down went McGinty to the bottom of the jail,

Where his board would cost him nix, and he stay'd exactly six;

They were big long months he stopp'd for no one went his bail

Dressed in his best suit of clothes.



Now McGinty thin and pale one fine day got out of jail,

And with joy to see his boy was nearly wild;

To his house he quickly ran to see his wife Bedaley Ann,

But she skipp'd away and took along the child.

Then he gave up in despair and he madly pulled his hair

As he stood one day upon the river shore;

Knowing well he couldn't swim, he did foolishly jump in,

Although watcr he had never took before.

Down went McGinty to t@e bottom of the say (sea)

And he must be very wet for they haven't found him yet

But they say his ghost comes round the docks before the break

of day,

Dressed in his best suit of clothes.

Dimanche matin à neuf heures, Dan McGinty était si bien habillé \u003cbr />
Se tenant devant un mur de pierre très haut,

Lorsque son ami, le jeune Pat McCann, dit: "Je parierai cinq dollars, Dan

Je pourrais te porter au sommet sans tomber. "

Donc, sur ses épaules, il a pris Dan, pour monter l'échelle, il a commencé,

Et a bientôt commencé à atteindre près du sommet;

Quand McGinty, mignon vieux coquin, pour gagner les cinq, il l'a lâché \u003cbr />
Sans jamais penser jusqu'où il devrait descendre.

Descend McGinty au fond du mur

Et bien qu'il ait remporté les cinq, il était plus mort que vivant

Bien sûr, ses côtes, son nez et son dos étaient cassés suite à une telle chute

Vêtu de son meilleur costume de vêtements.



De l'hôpital, Mac est rentré chez lui, quand ils ont réparé ses os cassés,

Pour découvrir qu'il était le père d'un enfant;

Donc, pour bien le célébrer, ses amis sont allés inviter,

Un @ bientôt il buvait du whisky rapidement et sauvagement;

Puis il se dandina dans la rue dans son costume du dimanche si soigné \u003cbr />
Tenant sa tête aussi fier que Jean le Grand;

Mais dans le trottoir était un trou, pour recevoir une tonne de charbon,

Que McGinty n'a vu que trop tard.



McGinty descendit au fond du trou,

Ensuite, le conducteur du chariot a donné le coup d'envoi à la charge de charbon

Et il nous a fallu une demi-heure pour creuser McGinty dans le charbon,

Habillé de son meilleur costume.



Maintenant, McG @ nty délirait et jurait, à propos de ses vêtements, il se sentait si endolori

Et un serment qu'il a prêté, il tuerait l'homme ou mourrait;

Alors il a fermement attrapé son bâton et a frappé le conducteur d'un coup de langue,

Puis il a levé un petit bidonville sur son ?il.

Mais deux policiers ont vu le moule et ils se sont vite joints au bruit

Ensuite, ils ont couru McGinty pour être ivre;

Et le juge dit avec un sourire, nous vous garderons un moment

Dans une cellule pour dormir sur une couchette de prison.

Descendu McGinty au fond de la prison,

Où sa planche lui coûterait nix, et il est resté exactement six;

Ils ont été de longs mois, il a arrêté car personne n'a obtenu sa caution

Vêtu de son meilleur costume de vêtements.



Maintenant McGinty mince et pâle un beau jour est sorti de prison,

Et avec joie de voir que son garçon était presque sauvage;

Chez lui, il a rapidement couru voir sa femme Bedaley Ann,

Mais elle s'est enfuie et a emmené l'enfant.

Puis il a abandonné dans le désespoir et il s'est tiré follement les cheveux

Comme il se tenait un jour sur la rive du fleuve;

Sachant bien qu'il ne savait pas nager, il a bêtement sauté dedans,

Bien qu'il n'ait jamais pris de watcr auparavant.

McGinty descendit au fond du mot (mer)

Et il doit être très mouillé car ils ne l'ont pas encore trouvé \u003cbr />
Mais ils disent que son fantôme fait le tour des quais avant la pause

du jour,

Vêtu de son meilleur costume de vêtements.
