PLEASANT AND DELIGHTFUL



It was pleasant and delightful one midsummer's morn

When the fields and the meadows were all covered in corn

And the blackbirds and thrushes sang on every green spray

And the larks they sang melodious at the dawning of the day

So it's fare thee well my Nancy, I can no longer stay

For the topsail is hoisted and the anchor aweigh

And the ship lies awaiting for the next flowing tide

And if ever I return again, I will make you my bride

C'était agréable et délicieux un matin d'été

Quand les champs et les prairies étaient tous recouverts de maïs

Et pendant qu'il se tenait en étreignant ses larmes, ses yeux sont tombés
Dire, puis-je vous accompagner, non, mon amour, adieu



Donc ça te va bien ma Nancy, je ne peux plus rester

Pour la voile supérieure est hissée et l'ancre pèse

Et le navire attend en attendant la prochaine marée montante

Et si jamais je reviens, je ferai de toi ma fiancée
