BUTCHER'S BOY



She went upstairs to make her bed

And not one word to her mother said

Her mother she went upstairs too

Saying, "Daughter, oh daughter, what troubles you?"



"Oh mother, oh mother, I cannot tell

That butcher's boy I love so well

He courted me my life away

And now at home he will not stay"



"There is a place in London town

Where that butcher's boy goes and sits down

He takes that strange girl on his knee

And tells to her what he won't tell me"



Her father he came up from work

Saying, "Where is my daughter, she seems so hurt"

He went upstairs to give her hope

And found her hanging from a rope



He took his knife and cut her down

And in her bosom these words were found

"Go dig my grave both wide and deep

Place a marble slab at my head and feet

And over my coffin, place a snow white dove

To warn the world that I died of love

Elle est allée à l'étage pour faire son lit

Et pas un mot à sa mère n'a dit

Sa mère, elle est allée à l'étage aussi

Dire: "Fille, oh fille, qu'est-ce qui te dérange?"



"Oh maman, oh maman, je ne peux pas le dire

Le boucher que j'aime si bien

Il m'a courtisé ma vie loin

Et maintenant à la maison, il ne restera pas "



"Il y a un endroit dans la ville de Londres

Où le garçon de ce boucher va et s'assoit

Il prend cette étrange fille sur ses genoux

Et lui dit ce qu'il ne me dira pas "



Son père, il est revenu du travail

Dire: "Où est ma fille, elle semble tellement blessée\"

Il est allé à l'étage pour lui donner de l'espoir

Et je l'ai trouvée suspendue à une corde



Il a pris son couteau et l'a abattue

Et dans son sein, ces mots ont été trouvés

"Allez creuser ma tombe à la fois large et profonde

Placer une plaque de marbre sur ma tête et mes pieds

Et sur mon cercueil, place une colombe blanche comme neige

Pour avertir le monde que je suis mort d'amour
