Well, when I was a lad, a pub was a pub,

Mahogany tables, sawdust floor,

Nothing fancy, plain enough,

But they don't build pubs like that any more.



They're knockin' 'em down

The old pubs,

Around the town

The old pubs,

Plastic's all the go.



Well, the landlord kept in his cellar well

A beer both heavy and strong,

A place to share your troubles in

And a place for a damn good song

Weddings, funerals, births and all,

We wished them all the best.

Good times, bad times, war and peace,

But the old pubs stood the test



But now here all the things have changed,

And the streets are flattened down.

And the people in the pubs have moved away

Out to the edge of town, oh

Eh bien, quand j'étais gamin, un pub était un pub,

Tables en acajou, plancher en sciure,

Rien d'extraordinaire, assez simple,

Mais ils ne construisent plus de pubs comme ça.



Ils les font tomber

Les vieux pubs,

Autour de la ville

Le plastique est partout.



Eh bien, le propriétaire a bien gardé sa cave

Une bière à la fois lourde et forte,

Un endroit pour partager vos problèmes dans

Et un endroit pour une putain de bonne chanson

Mariages, funérailles, naissances et tout,

Nous leur souhaitons tout le meilleur.

Bon temps, mauvais temps, guerre et paix,

Mais les vieux pubs ont résisté à l'épreuve



Mais maintenant, ici, tout a changé,

Et les rues sont aplaties.

Et les gens dans les pubs se sont éloignés

Au bord de la ville, oh
