Hang On The Bell

The scene was in the jailhouse, and if curfew rang that night

The guy in number 13 cell would go out like a light.

She knew her Dad was innocent, and so Poor Little Nell

Has tied her tender torso to the clapper of the bell.



cho: Oh, hang on the bell, Nelly, hang on the bell

Your poor Daddy's locked in a cold prison cell.

As you swing to the left, and you swing to the right

Remember that curfew must never ring tonight.



It all began when Nelly said, "No! No!" to Handsome Jack

And struggled as he tried to kiss her by the railroad track;

Her Dad rushed up to save her as the train came down the line,

And Jack fell back across the track and paid the price of crime.



Dear Daddy was arrested, and brought up before the Law,

The P'liceman said,"Old Handsome Jack ain't handsome any more!"

Then Nelly came and pleaded, but the jury did not care ---

They didn't have a sofa, so they offered him the chair.



Well, they pulled upon the bellrope, but there was no ting-a-ling

They could not get their business done, the curfew would not ring!

Upstairs, poor Nell was swinging, while below they pulled and heaved,

When suddenly a voice cried "Stop! Your father's been reprieved!"



Now, that's the bedtime story that the wardens love to tell

The convicts listen to this tale of Plucky Little Nell,

And how she saved her Dad that night --- the curfew did not ring!

And tears run down their faces, while in harmony they sing:

La scène était dans la prison, et si le couvre-feu retentissait cette nuit-là \u003cbr />
Le gars de la cellule numéro 13 s'éteindrait comme une lumière.

Elle savait que son père était innocent, et donc la pauvre petite Nell

A attaché son torse tendre au battant de la cloche.



cho: Oh, accroche-toi à la cloche, Nelly, accroche-toi à la cloche

Ton pauvre papa est enfermé dans une cellule de prison froide.

Lorsque vous vous balancez vers la gauche et que vous vous balancez vers la droite

N'oubliez pas que le couvre-feu ne doit jamais sonner ce soir.



Tout a commencé lorsque Nelly a dit: "Non! Non!" à Handsome Jack

Et s'est débattu en essayant de l'embrasser par la voie ferrée;

Son père s'est précipité pour la sauver alors que le train descendait la ligne,

Et Jack est retombé sur la piste et a payé le prix du crime.



Cher papa a été arrêté et élevé devant la loi,

Le P'liceman a dit: "Le vieux beau Jack n'est plus beau!"

Puis Nelly est venue et a plaidé, mais le jury s'en moquait ---

Ils n'avaient pas de canapé, alors ils lui ont offert la chaise.



Eh bien, ils ont tiré sur le Bellrope, mais il n'y avait pas de ting-a-ling
Ils ne pouvaient pas faire leurs affaires, le couvre-feu ne sonnerait pas!

En haut, le pauvre Nell se balançait, tandis qu'en bas ils tiraient et se soulevaient,

Quand soudain une voix a crié \"Arrêtez! Votre père a été libéré!"



Maintenant, c'est l'histoire du coucher que les gardiens adorent raconter

Les condamnés écoutent ce conte de Plucky Little Nell,

Et comment elle a sauvé son père cette nuit-là - le couvre-feu n'a pas sonné!

Et les larmes coulent sur leurs visages, tandis qu'en harmonie ils chantent:
