Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer

I was taken by a photograph of you

There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more

But they didn't show your spirit quite as true

You were turning 'round to see who was behind you

And I took your childish laughter by surprise

And at the moment that my camera happened to find you

There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes



Now the things that I remember seem so distant and so small

Though it hasn't really been that long a time

What I was seeing wasn't what was happening at all

Although for a while our path did seem to climb

When you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger

And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool

So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger

While the loneliness seems to spring from your life

Like a fountain from a pool

You've known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight

You've had to hide sometimes, but now you're all right

And it's good to see your smiling face tonight



Now for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams

But that magic feeling never seems to last

And all the future's there for anyone to change, still you know it seems

It would be easier sometimes to change the past

I'm just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you

In my lessons of love's pain and heartache school

Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you

There's this loneliness springing up from your life

Like a fountain from a pool

J'ai été prise par une photo de toi

Il y en avait un ou deux je sais que tu aurais aimé un peu plus

Mais ils ne montrent pas votre esprit aussi vrai

Tu te retournais pour voir qui était derrière toi

Et j'ai pris ton rire enfantin par surprise

Et au moment où mon appareil photo vous a trouvé \u003cbr />
Il y avait juste une trace de chagrin dans tes yeux



Maintenant, les choses dont je me souviens semblent si lointaines et si petites

Même si ça ne fait pas si longtemps

Ce que je voyais n'était pas du tout ce qui se passait

Bien que pendant un certain temps, notre chemin ait semblé grimper

Quand vous voyez à travers les illusions de l'amour, il y a le danger

Et votre amoureux parfait ressemble à un idiot parfait

Alors tu pars en courant à la recherche d'un parfait inconnu

Alors que la solitude semble jaillir de votre vie

Comme une fontaine d'une piscine

Tu as dû te cacher parfois, mais maintenant tu vas bien

Et c'est bon de voir ton visage souriant ce soir



Maintenant, pour vous et moi, ce n'est peut-être pas si difficile d'atteindre nos rêves

Mais ce sentiment magique ne semble jamais durer

Et tout l'avenir est là pour que tout le monde change, vous savez encore qu'il semble

Où si vous vous sentez trop libre et que vous avez besoin de quelque chose pour vous rappeler

Il y a cette solitude qui jaillit de ta vie
