Tucked in Leigh harbor's sheltered bay, safely anchored ten abreast.

The whalers at their stations, as from shed to shed they go,

Carry little bags of coal with them, and a little iron stove.

The fireman Paddy worked with me on the engine stiff and cold.

A stranger to the truth was he - there's not a lie he hasn't told.

And he boasted of his gold mine, and of all the hearts he'd won,

And his bonny sense of humor shone just like a ray of sun.

Meet your old friends, sing a song; hope the season won't be long,

Then homeward bound when it's over; we'll leave this icy hold,

Dans cette salle des machines toute noire,

Où le froid s'infiltre dans ton âme,

Comment nous nous sommes blottis autour de ce petit réchaud

Cela a brûlé des chiffons huileux et du charbon.

Comment les blizzards hivernaux soufflent et la flotte baleinière est au repos,

Niché dans la baie abritée du port de Leigh, ancré en toute sécurité à dix de front.

Les baleiniers à leurs stations, comme de hangar en hangar, ils vont,

Emportez avec eux des petits sacs de charbon et un petit poêle en fer.

Le pompier Paddy a travaillé avec moi sur le moteur rigide et froid.

Il était étranger à la vérité - il n'y a pas un mensonge qu'il n'ait pas dit.

Et il se vantait de sa mine d'or et de tous les c?urs qu'il avait gagnés,

Et son bon sens de l'humour brillait comme un rayon de soleil.

Puis un jour, nous avons vu le soleil et le retour des navires-usines.

Rencontrez vos vieux amis, chantez une chanson; j'espère que la saison ne sera pas longue,

Puis retour à la maison quand c'est fini; nous laisserons cette prise glacée,

Mais je me souviendrai toujours de ce petit poêle en fer.
