I Dreamed About Mama Last Night

I've just been to heaven with someone so true I dreamed about mama last night

She read me her Bible like she used to do I dreamed about mama last night



Mama used to never go to sleep at night until all of us were in bed

On party nights till we came home she often sat up and read

We little thought about it then for we were young and gay

Just how much mama worried when children were away



We only knew that she never slept when we were out at night

That she waited just to know that we were all gonna come home alright

Why sometimes we'd stayed away till one or two or three

And I used to think that mama could hear the turning of the key



For we'd step aside and she'd call and we'd reply

But we were all too young back then to understand just why

But up until the last one had returned mama always kept a light

She couldn't go to sleep until she kissed us all goodnight



I think mama just had to know that we were safe before she went to rest

She seemed to fear that the world might harm the ones that she loved the best

One time she told me when you're grown to women and to men

I'll sleep the whole night through I bet I'll be different then



And so it seemed that night and day we knew a mother's care

Then always when we got back home we'd find her waiting there

And then came the night that we were called together round her bed

The children are all with you now the kindly doctor said

And in her eyes there gleamed again that old time tender light

That told that she's just been waitin' to know that we were all alright

She smiled that old familiar smile and prayed to God to keep

Her children safe from harm throughout the years then mama went to sleep



My dream is a treasure that I'll always keep I dreamed about mama last night

Je viens d'être au paradis avec quelqu'un de si vrai que j'ai rêvé de maman hier soir

Elle m'a lu sa Bible comme elle le faisait j?ai rêvé de maman hier soir



Maman ne dormait jamais la nuit jusqu'à ce que nous soyons tous au lit

Les soirées de fête jusqu'à notre retour à la maison, elle s'est souvent assise et a lu

On y a peu réfléchi alors car on était jeunes et gays

Combien maman était inquiète quand les enfants étaient absents



Nous savions seulement qu'elle ne dormait jamais quand nous sortions la nuit

Qu'elle a attendu juste pour savoir que nous allions tous bien rentrer

Pourquoi parfois nous étions restés à l'écart jusqu'à un ou deux ou trois

Et je pensais que maman pouvait entendre le tournage de la clé \u003cbr />


Car nous nous écarterions et elle appellerait et nous répondrions

Mais nous étions trop jeunes à l'époque pour comprendre pourquoi

Mais jusqu'à ce que le dernier soit revenu, maman gardait toujours une lumière

Elle ne pouvait pas dormir jusqu'à ce qu'elle nous embrasse tous bonsoir



Je pense que maman devait juste savoir que nous étions en sécurité avant de se reposer

Elle semblait craindre que le monde ne fasse du mal à ceux qu'elle aimait le mieux

Une fois, elle m'a dit quand tu serais devenue une femme et un homme

Je vais dormir toute la nuit, je parie que je serai différent alors



Et donc il semblait que nuit et jour nous connaissions les soins d'une mère

Puis, toujours à notre retour à la maison, nous la trouvions en attente là-bas

Et puis vint la nuit où on nous a appelés ensemble autour de son lit

Les enfants sont tous avec vous maintenant le gentil docteur a dit

Et dans ses yeux brillait à nouveau cette tendre lumière d'autrefois

Cela a dit qu'elle attendait juste de savoir que tout allait bien

Elle a souri de ce vieux sourire familier et a prié Dieu de garder

Ses enfants à l'abri du mal tout au long des années, puis maman s'est endormie



Mon rêve est un trésor que je garderai toujours J'ai rêvé de maman hier soir
