(Don Quixote averts his eyes worshipfully)

DON QUIXOTE

My lady jests.



ALDONZA

Aldonza!



DON QUIXOTE

The name of a kitchen-scullion... or perhaps my

lady's serving-maid?



ALDONZA

I told you my name! Now get out of the way.

(She clears past him to the table.)



DON QUIXOTE

(Smiling, sill keeping his eyes averted)

Did my lady think to put me to a test?

Ah, sweet sovereign of my captive heart. I shall

not fail thee, for I know...



I have dreamed thee too long,

Never seen thee or touched thee.

But known thee with all of my heart.

Half a prayer, half a song,

Thou hast always been with me,

Though we have been always apart.

tells of Don Quixote's family and friends who are

(Don Quichotte détourne ses yeux avec adoration)

De peur d'être aveuglé par la beauté. Mais j'implore

Ma dame plaisante.

DON QUIXOTE

Le nom d'un échalote de cuisine ... ou peut-être mon

servante de dame?



ALDONZA

Je t'ai dit mon nom! Maintenant, éloignez-vous.

(Elle passe devant lui à la table.)



DON QUIXOTE

(Souriant, en gardant ses yeux détournés)

Ma dame a-t-elle pensé à me mettre à l'épreuve?

Ah, doux souverain de mon c?ur captif. Je vais

ne te manque pas, car je sais ...



Je t'ai rêvé trop longtemps,

Je ne t'ai jamais vu ni touché.

Mais je te connais de tout mon c?ur.

Bien que nous ayons toujours été séparés.
