Ever since they built the freeway the old 2 lane's closing down

cause it winds along the riverbed, past too many little towns

they're closing up the truck stops, they had to lock the door

Cause the business can't keep up with the fast food anymore

It's gone the way of courting, gone the way of the model T

It's gone the way of the way life used to be



The shop keeper will suffer cause no one wants to drive

the half mile off the exit ramp to sample local style

They'll never find the barber, the store or the bakery

unless they get off the big road, to see the scenery

It's gone the way of the drive-in, gone the way of the Dynaflow

It's gone the way of the way of the way life used to go



The old road was a lifeline, revolving around our dreams

we built our homes along the edge and then were put to sleep

by the wheels of the traffic rolling slowly through our town

Will this all up and fade away when they close the old road down

It's gone the way of the nickel Coke, gone the way of the easy plan

ils ferment les arrêts de camions, ils ont dû verrouiller la porte

Parce que l'entreprise ne peut plus suivre la restauration rapide

C'est parti pour la cour, c'est parti pour le modèle T

C'est le chemin de la façon dont la vie était autrefois



Le commerçant souffrira car personne ne veut conduire

le demi-mile de la rampe de sortie pour goûter au style local

Ils ne trouveront jamais le coiffeur, le magasin ou la boulangerie

à moins qu'ils ne sortent de la grande route, pour voir le paysage

L'ancienne route était une bouée de sauvetage, gravitant autour de nos rêves

nous avons construit nos maisons le long du bord, puis nous avons été endormis

par les roues de la circulation roulant lentement dans notre ville

Est-ce que tout cela disparaîtra quand ils fermeront l'ancienne route en bas
