The "Rising Of The Moon" was the marching song of the Regular

Army Infantry before the Civil War. These words were probably

written in the winter of 1861 when six of the ten pre-war

Regular Infantry Regiments had been formed into the Second

Division of Gen. Fitz John Porter's Fifth Corps. The "Regular

Division" would serve with distinction until late 1863 when

due to losses from two years of hard campaigns and many battles

it would be withdrawn from the field.

Le "Rising Of The Moon" était la chanson en marche du Regular

Infanterie militaire avant la guerre civile. Ces mots étaient probablement

écrit à l'hiver 1861 lorsque six des dix avant-guerre

Des régiments d'infanterie réguliers avaient été constitués en deuxième

Division du cinquième corps du général Fitz John Porter. Le "régulier

Division "servirait avec distinction jusqu'à la fin de 1863 lorsque

en raison des pertes de deux années de campagnes dures et de nombreuses batailles

il serait retiré du terrain.
