THE ROYAL BLACKBIRD



Upon a fine mornmg for soft recreation,

I heard a fair damsel making much moan,

Sighing and sobbing with sad lamentation

And saying :" My blackbird most royal has flown;

My thoughts they deceive me,

Reflection it grieves me,

And I'm overburdened with sad misery,

But if death should bind me,

As true love inclines me,

I'II seek out my bl@ckbird wherever he be."



"The birds of the forest they all flock together

The turtle has chosen to dwell with the dove,

And I am resolved in fair or foul weather

Once more in the springtime to seek out my love;

He is all my heart's treasure,

My joy without measure,

Oh, love mc, my love, for my heart is with thee,

He is constant and kind

And courageous of mind,

And I'II seek out my blackbird wherever he be."



"But if by the fowler my blackbird is taken

Then weeping and wailing will be all my tune,

But if he's alive, and I'm not mistaken,

I surely will see him in May or in June;

For him through hell-fire,

Though the joumey be dire,

I'll go, for I love him to such a degree,

Who is faithful and kind

And so noble of mind

That he carries a blessing wherever he be."



"And not the wide ocean can fright me with danger,

For though like a pilgrim I wander forlorn,

I may meet with some friendship from one that's a stranger

Before anyone that in England was born;

Oh, Heaven, so spacious

To England be gracious,

Though some there be odious to both him and me,

For bay of renown,

My blackbird with honour wherever he be.

Après un beau matin pour des loisirs doux,

J'ai entendu une belle demoiselle faire beaucoup de gémissements,

Soupirant et sanglotant avec une lamentation triste

Et en disant: "Mon merle le plus royal a volé;

Mes pensées me trompent,

Réflexion ça me chagrine,

Et je suis surchargé de triste misère,

Mais si la mort devait me lier,

Comme le vrai amour me penche,

Je vais chercher mon bl @ ckbird où qu'il soit. "



"Les oiseaux de la forêt s'assemblent tous

La tortue a choisi de vivre avec la colombe,

Et je suis résolu par beau temps ou par mauvais temps

Une fois de plus au printemps pour chercher mon amour;

Il est tout le trésor de mon c?ur,

Ma joie sans mesure,

Oh, mon amour mc, mon amour, car mon c?ur est avec toi,

Il est constant et gentil

Et courageux d'esprit,

Et je vais chercher mon merle où qu'il soit. "



"Mais si par l'oiseleur mon merle est pris

Alors les pleurs et les lamentations seront tout mon air,

Mais s'il est vivant, et je ne me trompe pas,

Je le verrai sûrement en mai ou en juin;

Pour lui à travers le feu de l'enfer,

Bien que le joumey soit terrible,

Je vais y aller, car je l'aime tellement,

Qui est fidèle et gentil

Et si noble d'esprit

Qu'il porte une bénédiction où qu'il soit. "
