Sitting alone in an old rocking chair,

I saw an old mother with silvery hair,

She looked so neglected by those who should care,

Her hands were all callused and wrinkled and old,

A life of hard work was the story they told,

And I thought of angles when I saw her there,

Bless her old heart do you think she complained,

Though life had been bitter she'd live it again,

It wouldn't take much to gladden her heart,

Just some small remembrance on somebody's part,

I know some children in an orphan home,

Who'd think they owned heaven if she were there own,

Assis seul dans une vieille chaise berçante,

J'ai vu une vieille mère aux cheveux argentés,

Elle avait l'air si négligée par ceux qui devraient s'en soucier,

Ses mains étaient toutes calleuses et ridées et vieilles,

Une vie de dur labeur a été l'histoire qu'ils ont racontée,

Et j'ai pensé aux angles quand je l'ai vue là-bas,

Bénissez son vieux c?ur pensez-vous qu'elle s'est plainte,

Bien que la vie ait été amère, elle la revivrait,
