"Tell me, tell me, Sean O'Farrell, tell me why you hurry so?"

"Hush mavoughal, hush and listen," and his face was all aglow

"I bear orders from the captain, get you ready quick and soon

With your pike upon your shoulder for the rising of the moon"



"Tell me, tell me, Sean O'Farrell, where the gatherin' is to be?"

"Near the old spot by the river, right well known to you and me"

"One more thing, the signal token?" "Whistle up the marching tune

For our pikes must be together by the rising of the moon"



Out from many a mud-walled cabin, eyes were lookin' through the

night

Many a manly heart was throbin' for the blessed morning light

A cry arose along the river, like some banshee's mournful croon

And a thousand pikes were flashing by the rising of the moon



All along the shining river one black mass of men was seen

And above them in the night wind floated our immortal green

Death to every foe and traitor. Onward, strike the marching tune

And hurrah me boys for freedom, it's the rising of the moon



Well they fought for dear old Ireland, and full bitter was their fate,

Oh what glorious pride and sorrow fills the name of ninety-eight.

But thank God e'en now are beating hearts in mankind's burning noon,

Who will follow in their footsteps, at the rising of the moon.

LEVER DE LA LUNE



"Dis-moi, dis-moi, Sean O'Farrell, dis-moi pourquoi tu te dépêches ainsi?"

"Chut mavoughal, tais-toi et écoute", et son visage était tout rougeoyant

"Je porte les ordres du capitaine, préparez-vous vite et vite

Avec ton brochet sur ton épaule pour le lever de la lune "



"Dis-moi, dis-moi, Sean O'Farrell, où doit être le rassemblement?"

"Près du vieil endroit au bord de la rivière, bien connu de vous et de moi"

"Encore une chose, le jeton de signal?" "Sifflez le morceau en marche

Car nos piques doivent être réunies par le lever de la lune "



Hors de beaucoup d'une cabine aux murs de boue, les yeux regardaient à travers le

nuit

Beaucoup de c?urs virils palpitaient pour la lumière bénie du matin

Un cri s'éleva le long de la rivière, comme le chant triste de certains banshee

Et un millier de piques brillaient par le lever de la lune



Tout le long de la rivière brillante, une masse noire d'hommes a été vue

Et au-dessus d'eux dans le vent nocturne flottait notre vert immortel

Mort à tous les ennemis et traître. En avant, frappez l'air en marche

Et bravo les garçons pour la liberté, c'est le lever de la lune



Eh bien, ils se sont battus pour la chère vieille Irlande, et leur sort était amer,

Oh quelle glorieuse fierté et chagrin remplit le nom de quatre-vingt-dix-huit.

Mais Dieu merci, les c?urs battent maintenant dans le midi brûlant de l'humanité,

Qui suivra leurs traces, au lever de la lune.
