The Programmer's Lament



As I walked out in the DP Department,

As I walked out down in DP one day,

I met a young programmer rolled up in white listings,

A-chewing his pencil and filled with dismay.



cho:

Oh, turn the drum slowly, and print the dump lowly,

Carry it to my desk without more delay,

Convert all the registers to decimal notation

Blame the crash on bad data and throw it away.



Oh, once in my car pool I used to go riding,

At nine I was here and at five I was gone;

But now that my program's gone into production

I've so many bugs that I cannot go home.

Oh, once my designs were the pride of the section,

For length and completeness their equal was none;

My flow charts they flowed into modular code,

But now it's all finished, the damn thing won't run.

La complainte du programmeur



Alors que je sortais dans le département DP,

Alors que je sortais en DP un jour,

J'ai rencontré un jeune programmeur enroulé dans des listes blanches,

Mâcher son crayon et rempli de consternation.

Oh, tournez lentement le tambour, et imprimez le vidage doucement,

Portez-le sur mon bureau sans plus attendre,

Convertissez tous les registres en notation décimale

Blâmer le crash sur les mauvaises données et les jeter.



Oh, une fois dans mon covoiturage, je faisais de l'équitation,

À neuf heures, j'étais ici et à cinq heures, j'étais parti;

Mais maintenant que mon programme est entré en production

J'ai tellement d'insectes que je ne peux pas rentrer à la maison.

Oh, une fois que mes créations étaient la fierté de la section,

Pour la longueur et l'exhaustivité, leur égal était nul;

Mes organigrammes, ils ont coulé dans du code modulaire,

Mais maintenant, tout est fini, la fichue chose ne fonctionnera pas.
