I first took up guitar when I was just a kid in high school

All my hippie friends told me it was the thing to do,

Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, Dylan, Donovan and Denver

One day I hoped I'd learn to play the F-chord like they do...



cho: I sit down to play a song

I'm always hitting some notes wrong.

I can't control my fingers, they just want to stick together

And I don't think I'll ever learn that F-chord any better.



So I bought some songbooks --- Judy Collins, Peter Paul and Mary

And I played the ones in G and D. Now, there were quite a few.

But F was just to much for me, my fingers futile failures

I'll never learn to play that lousy F-chord like they do..

And then I went to college where I mostly went to parties

Where we'd talk about reality and smoke a thing or two;

There were talented guitarists who attracted all the women

And I'd try and try and TRY to play the F-chord like they do..

The years went by, and I was mostly stuck in pattern picking

While my friends were playing up the neck, with real hot solos too;

So at all the folkie parties I would cower in the corner

Wishing I could only learn to play the F-chord like they do...

I've tried classes, books and lessons. I went broke attending

workshops

I've done finger exercises till my hands were black and blue

Now I've given up guitar and found an instrument I'm good at

And I'll never have to play an F-chord now --- on my kazoo!

J'ai commencé la guitare quand j'étais enfant au lycée

Tous mes amis hippies m'ont dit que c'était la chose à faire,

Un jour, j'espérais que j'apprendrais à jouer l'accord F comme ils le font ...



cho: je m'assois pour jouer une chanson

Je frappe toujours mal certaines notes.

Je ne peux pas contrôler mes doigts, ils veulent juste rester ensemble

Et je ne pense pas que j'apprendrai jamais cet accord F mieux.



J'ai donc acheté des recueils de chansons --- Judy Collins, Peter Paul et Mary

Et j'ai joué ceux en G et D. Maintenant, il y en avait pas mal.

Mais F était juste trop pour moi, mes doigts ont échoué en vain

Je n'apprendrai jamais à jouer cet accord F moche comme ils le font ..

Et puis je suis allé à l'université où je suis allé principalement à des soirées

Où nous parlions de la réalité et fumions une chose ou deux;

Il y avait des guitaristes talentueux qui ont attiré toutes les femmes

Et j'essaierais et j'essaierais de jouer l'accord F comme ils le font ..

Les années ont passé et j'étais surtout coincé dans la sélection de modèles

Pendant que mes amis jouaient jusqu'au cou, avec de vrais solos chauds aussi;

Donc à toutes les soirées folk, je me recroquevillais dans le coin

Souhaitant que je puisse seulement apprendre à jouer l'accord F comme ils le font ...

J'ai essayé des cours, des livres et des leçons. Je suis allé fauché assister

ateliers

J'ai fait des exercices avec les doigts jusqu'à ce que mes mains soient noires et bleues

Maintenant j'ai abandonné la guitare et trouvé un instrument dans lequel je suis bon

Et je n'aurai jamais à jouer un accord F maintenant --- sur mon kazoo!
