As I walked out on South Street, a fair maid I did meet

Where is the shop that sells it? Have they got any more?"



The Old Man cried, "Why Jack, my boy, I'm sure I could have found

A better suit than that, by far, to buy for eighty pounds."



So come all you bully sailormen, take warning when ashore

Or else you'll meet some charming girl who's nothing but a whore



Your hard-earned cash will disappear, your rig and boots as well

For Yankee girls are tougher than the other side of Hell.

Et quand nous avons atteint le bar, les garçons, les boissons ont été remises

Une fois la boisson terminée, nous nous sommes directement couchés.

Et je n'ai jamais pensé qu'elle prouverait mon renversement



Quand je suis arrivé le lendemain matin, j'avais la tête endolorie

Et il y avait moi, Jack tout seul, complètement nu sur le lit



J'ai regardé tout autour de la pièce, mais je n'ai rien vu

Mais le tablier et le tablier d'une dame qui m'appartenait maintenant

Tout était silencieux, il était huit heures

Je mets mon quart de travail et mon tablier et me dirige vers le quai



Mes compagnons de bord me voyant monter à bord, ces mots m'ont dit

"Eh bien, mon vieux, tu as perdu ta casquette depuis la dernière fois où tu es parti."



"Est-ce la nouvelle mode printanière que les dames portent à terre?

Où est le magasin qui le vend? En ont-ils plus? "



Le vieil homme a pleuré, "Pourquoi Jack, mon garçon, je suis sûr que j'aurais pu trouver

Un meilleur costume que cela, de loin, à acheter pour quatre-vingt livres. "



Alors venez tous vous harceler les matelots, prenez garde à terre

Ou bien vous rencontrerez une charmante fille qui n'est rien d'autre qu'une putain



Votre argent durement gagné disparaîtra, votre gréement et vos bottes aussi

Pour les Yankees, les filles sont plus coriaces que l'autre côté de l'enfer.
