Mighty Mississippi



Way out in the Mississippi valley

Just among the plains so grand,

Flows the flooded Mississippi River

Destroying the works of man.



With her waters at the highest

That all man has ever known,

She came sweeping through the valley

And destroying land and homes.



There were children clinging in the treetops

Who had spent those sleepless nights,

And without a bit of shelter

Or even a spark of light.



With their prayers going up to their Father

For the break of day to come,

That they might see some rescue party

Who would provide for them a home.



There were some of them on the housetops

With no way to give an alarm,

There were mothers wading in the water

With their babies in their arms.



Let us all get right with our Maker

As He doth make all things well,

And be ready to meet in judgment

When we bid this earth farewell.

Sortie dans la vallée du Mississippi

Juste parmi les plaines si grandes,

Débit du fleuve Mississippi inondé \u003cbr />
Détruisant les ?uvres de l'homme.



Avec ses eaux au plus haut

Que tout homme a jamais connu,

Elle est venue balayer la vallée

Et en détruisant la terre et les maisons.



Il y avait des enfants accrochés à la cime des arbres

Qui avait passé ces nuits blanches,

Et sans un peu d'abri

Ou même une étincelle de lumière.



Avec leurs prières allant à leur père

Pour la pause du jour à venir,

Pour voir une équipe de sauvetage

Qui leur fournirait une maison.



Il y en avait sur les toits

Sans aucun moyen de donner une alarme,

Il y avait des mères pataugeant dans l'eau

Avec leurs bébés dans leurs bras.



Laissez-nous tous bien faire avec notre Maker

Comme Il fait bien toutes choses,

Et soyez prêt à vous rencontrer en jugement

Quand nous disons adieu à cette terre.
