Johnny Scott

Johnny Scott's to the hunting gane,

To the English woods so wild,

And the king of England's daughter

Made a tryst to be his bride.



The king he wrote a broad letter

And sealed it with his hand,

And sent it off to Johnny Scott

As fast as it could gang.



When Johnny read the letter,

A sorry man was he,

Saying, "Father, dearest father,

The king has sent for me."

"If that be so, my son," he says,

"As I suppose it be,

I fear, I fear, my lovely son,

Your face I'll never see."

He dressed himself in apparel fine,

As fine as fine could be,

And he's away to fair England

His lady for to see.



When he came to England,

He look-ed all around,

And there he spied his lady love

As he came riding down.

"Come down, come down, my lady," he says,

"Come down, come down to me."

"I can't go down, dear Johnny," she says,

"The king has bolted me."



And when he came before the king,

He knelt low at his knee;

The king he moved his bonnet,

Thought Johnny a king like he.



"No king, no king," said Johnny Scott,

"No king, no king," said he;

"I'm just one of your cottage men,

Johnny Scott, they do call me."

"If Johnny Scott it is your name,

As I suppose it be,

Before tomorrow at twelve o'clock,

A butchered man you'll be."



"We have an ltalian in the next room

This day has kill-ed three,

And before tomorrow at twelve o'clock,

Your butcher he will be."



The ltalian came out of the room,

A grimly giant he,

Yards three between his shoulders,

Spans four from e'e to e'e.

They fought about, they fought all round

With swords of tempered steel,

But on the point of Johnny's sword

The death thrust he did feel.



"Come down, come down, my lady," he says,

"Come down, come down to me;

This night you shall be in my arms ,

And tomorrow my bride you'll be."

Johnny Scott

Johnny Scott's au gane de chasse,

Dans les bois anglais si sauvages,

Et la fille du roi d'Angleterre

Fait un rendez-vous pour être sa mariée.



Le roi a écrit une large lettre

Et je l'ai scellé avec sa main,

Et je l'ai envoyé à Johnny Scott

Aussi vite que possible.



Quand Johnny a lu la lettre,

Un homme désolé était-il,

Dire: "Père, très cher père,

Le roi m'a envoyé chercher. "

"Si tel est le cas, mon fils", dit-il,

"Comme je suppose,

Je crains, je crains, mon adorable fils,

Ton visage, je ne le verrai jamais. "

Il s'est habillé avec des vêtements très bien,

Aussi fine que fine,

Et il est parti pour foire l'Angleterre

Sa dame pour voir.



Quand il est venu en Angleterre,

Il a regardé tout autour,

Et là, il a espionné sa femme amoureuse

Alors qu'il descendait à cheval.

"Venez, descendez, ma dame", dit-il,

"Venez, venez à moi."

"Je ne peux pas descendre, cher Johnny", dit-elle,

"Le roi m'a boulonné.\"



Et quand il est venu devant le roi,

Il s'est agenouillé à genoux;

Le roi a déplacé son bonnet,

Je pensais que Johnny était un roi comme lui.



"Pas de roi, pas de roi", a déclaré Johnny Scott,

"Pas de roi, pas de roi", a-t-il dit;

"Je ne suis qu'un de tes hommes de chalet,

Johnny Scott, ils m'appellent. "

"Si Johnny Scott c'est ton nom,

Comme je suppose,

Avant demain à midi,

Tu seras un boucher. "



"Nous avons un italien dans la pièce voisine

Cette journée a tué trois personnes,

Et avant demain à midi,

Il sera votre boucher. "



L'italien est sorti de la pièce,

Un sinistre géant lui,

Trois mètres entre ses épaules,

S'étend sur quatre de e'e à e'e.

Ils se sont battus, ils se sont battus tout autour

Avec épées en acier trempé,

Mais sur le point de l'épée de Johnny

La poussée de mort qu'il a ressentie.



"Venez, descendez, ma dame", dit-il,

"Descends, viens vers moi;

Cette nuit tu seras dans mes bras,

Et demain ma fiancée tu seras. "
