First Noel - Unknown

THE FIRST NOEL



The first Noel the angels did say

Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;

In fields where they lay keeping their sheep

On a cold winter's night that was so deep.

Born is the King of Israel.



They looked up and saw a star

Shining in the East, beyond them far,

And to the earth it gave great light,

And so it continued, both day and night.



And by the light of that same star

Three wise men came from country far,

To seek for a King was their intent,

And to follow the star whereever it went.



This star drew nigh to the northwest;

O'er Bethlehem it took its rest.

And there it did both stop and stay,

Right over the place whcre Jesus lay.



Then they did know assuredly

Within that house, the King did lie

One entered in then for to see

And found the babe in poverty.



Then entered in those wise men three,

Full reverently, upon bended knee,

And offered there, in His presence,

Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.



If we in our time do well

We shall be free from death and hell

For God hath prepared for us all

A resting place in general.

LE PREMIER NOEL



Le premier Noel les anges ont dit

Était à certains pauvres bergers dans les champs pendant qu'ils pondaient;

Dans les champs où ils pondent en gardant leurs moutons

Par une froide nuit d'hiver si profonde.

Né est le roi d'Israël.



Ils ont levé les yeux et ont vu une étoile

Brillant à l'Est, au-delà d'eux loin,

Et à la terre, il a donné une grande lumière,

Et cela a continué, de jour comme de nuit.



Et à la lumière de cette même étoile

Trois hommes sages sont venus du pays loin,

Chercher un roi était leur intention,

Et pour suivre l'étoile où qu'elle aille.



Cette étoile s'est approchée du nord-ouest;

O'er Bethlehem, il a pris son repos.

Et là, il s'est arrêté et est resté,

Juste à l'endroit où gisait Jésus.



Ensuite, ils savaient assurément

Dans cette maison, le roi a menti

On est entré alors pour voir

Et j'ai trouvé le bébé dans la pauvreté.



Puis entrèrent dans ces sages trois,

Plein avec révérence, genou plié,

Et offert là, en sa présence,

Leur or et myrrhe et encens.



Si à notre époque nous faisons bien

Nous serons libres de la mort et de l'enfer

Car Dieu a préparé pour nous tous

Un lieu de repos en général.
