The Doctor

There once was a doctor,(no foe to the proctor)

A physic concoctor, whose dose was so pat,

However it acted, one speech it extracted

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

There's no doubt about it, he meant it for that.



And first, all "unaisy", like woman that's crazy

In flies Mrs. Casey---"Do come to poor Pat!

The blood's running faster, he's torn off the plaster!"

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

Anon, with an antic, quite strange and romantic

A woman comes frantic ---"What could you be at?

My darling deasr Alick, you've sent him oxalic!"

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

Then in comes another, dispatched by his mother,

A blubbering brother who gives a rat-tat;

"Oh poor little sister has licked off a blister!"

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

Now home comes the flunkey, his own powder monkey

But dull as a donkey, with basket and that ---

The draught for the squire, sir, he chucked in the fire, sir,

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

The next is the pompous head-beadle, old Bumpus

"Lord! Here is a rumpus. That pauper, old Nat

In some drunken notion has drunk up his lotion!"

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

At last comes a servant in grief very fervent

"Alas! Doctor Derwent, poor master is flat!

He's drawn his last breath, sir. That dose was his death, sir!

"Yes Yes", said the doctor, "I meant it for that!"

Il y avait une fois un médecin (pas d'ennemi pour le surveillant)

Un concocteur physique, dont la dose était si douce,

Quoi qu'il en soit, un discours qu'il a extrait

Et d'abord, tout "unaisy", comme une femme folle

Dans les mouches, Mme Casey --- "Venez au pauvre Pat!

Le sang coule plus vite, il a arraché le plâtre! "

"Oui oui", a déclaré le médecin, "je le pensais pour ça!"

Anon, avec une bouffonnerie, assez étrange et romantique

Une femme s'énerve --- "Où pourriez-vous être?

Ma chérie chérie Alick, tu lui as envoyé de l'oxalique! "

"Oui oui", a déclaré le médecin, "je le pensais pour ça!"

Puis en arrive un autre, envoyé par sa mère,

Un frère à la bouche qui donne un rat-tat;

"Oh pauvre petite soeur a léché une ampoule!"

"Oui oui", a déclaré le médecin, "je le pensais pour ça!"

Maintenant à la maison vient le flunkey, son propre singe en poudre

Mais terne comme un âne, avec panier et ça ---

Le tirant d'eau pour l'écuyer, monsieur, il a jeté dans le feu, monsieur,

"Oui oui", a déclaré le médecin, "je le pensais pour ça!"

Le suivant est le pompeux head-beadle, vieux Bumpus

"Seigneur! Voici un rumpus. Ce pauvre, le vieux Nat

Dans une certaine idée ivre a bu sa lotion! "

"Oui oui", a déclaré le médecin, "je le pensais pour ça!"

Vient enfin un serviteur dans la douleur très fervent

"Hélas! Docteur Derwent, le pauvre maître est plat!

Il a pris son dernier souffle, monsieur. Cette dose était sa mort, monsieur!

"Oui oui", a déclaré le médecin, "je le pensais pour ça!"
