The first thing I remember

I was lying in my bed

I couldn't of been no more

Than one or two

I remember there's a radio

Comin' from the room next door

And my mother laughed

The way some ladies do

When it's late in the evening

And the music's seeping through



The next thing I remember

I am walking down the street

I'm feeling all right

I'm with my boys

I'm with my troops, yeah

And down along the avenue

Some guys were shooting pool

And I heard the sound

Of a cappella groups, yeah

Singing late in the evening

And all the girls out on the stoops, yeah



Then I learned to play some lead guitar

I was underage in this funky bar

And I stepped outside to smoke myself a "J"

And when I came back to the room

Everybody just seemed to move

And I turned my amp up loud and I began to play

And it was late in the evening

And I blew that room away

I said I'm gonna get that girl

No matter what I do

Well I guess I'd been in love before

And once or twice I been on the floor

But I never loved no one

The way that I loved you

And it was late in the evening

And all the music seeping through

La première chose dont je me souviens

J'étais allongé dans mon lit

Je ne pouvais plus l'être

Plus d'un ou deux

Je me souviens qu'il y a une radio

Venant de la chambre d'à côté

Et ma mère a ri

Comme le font certaines femmes

Quand il est tard dans la soirée

Et la musique s'infiltre à travers



La prochaine chose dont je me souviens

Je marche dans la rue

Je me sens bien

Je suis avec mes garçons

Je suis avec mes troupes, ouais

Et le long de l'avenue

Certains gars tiraient sur la piscine

Et j'ai entendu le son

D'un groupe a cappella, ouais

Chanter tard le soir

Et toutes les filles sur le perron, ouais



J'ai ensuite appris à jouer de la guitare solo

J'étais mineur dans ce bar funky

Et je suis sorti pour me fumer un "J"

Et quand je suis revenu dans la chambre

Tout le monde semblait bouger

Et j'ai fait monter mon ampli fort et j'ai commencé à jouer

Et c'était tard dans la soirée

Et j'ai fait sauter cette pièce

Peu importe ce que je fais

Je suppose que j'avais été amoureux avant

Et une ou deux fois j'ai été par terre
