Northwest Passage

cho: Ah, for just one time I would take the Northwest Passage

To find the hand of Franklin reaching for the Beaufort Sea;

Tracing one warm line through a land so wild and savage

And make a Northwest Passage to the sea.



Westward from the Davis Strait 'tis there 'twas said to lie

The sea route to the Orient for which so many died;

Seeking gold and glory, leaving weathered, broken bones

And a long-forgotten lonely cairn of stones.



Three centuries thereafter, I take passage overland

In the footsteps of brave Kelso, where his "sea of flowers" began

Watching cities rise before me, then behind me sink again

This tardiest explorer, driving hard across the plain.



And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west

I think upon Mackenzie, David Thompson and the rest

Who cracked the mountain ramparts and did show a path for me

To race the roaring Fraser to the sea.



How then am I so different from the first men through this way?

Like them, I left a settled life, I threw it all away.

To seek a Northwest Passage at the call of many men

To find there but the road back home again.

Passage du Nord-Ouest

cho: Ah, pour une seule fois je prendrais le passage du Nord-Ouest

Pour trouver la main de Franklin atteignant la mer de Beaufort;

Tracer une ligne chaude à travers une terre si sauvage et sauvage

Et faites un passage du Nord-Ouest vers la mer.



À l'ouest du détroit de Davis, on dit qu'il y a des mots

La route maritime vers l'Orient pour laquelle tant de personnes sont mortes;

À la recherche d'or et de gloire, laissant des os cassés et altérés

Et un cairn de pierres solitaire oublié depuis longtemps.



Trois siècles après, je prends le passage par voie terrestre

Sur les traces du courageux Kelso, là où sa "mer de fleurs" a commencé \u003cbr />
Regarder les villes monter devant moi, puis sombrer à nouveau derrière moi

Cet explorateur le plus tardif, qui traverse la plaine.



Et toute la nuit, au volant, le kilométrage en cliquant vers l'ouest

Je pense à Mackenzie, David Thompson et les autres

Qui a fendu les remparts de la montagne et m'a montré un chemin

Pour courir le Fraser rugissant vers la mer.



En quoi suis-je donc si différent des premiers hommes de cette manière?

Comme eux, j'ai quitté une vie sédentaire, j'ai tout jeté.

Chercher un passage du Nord-Ouest à l'appel de nombreux hommes

Pour y trouver mais le chemin du retour.
