Apparently before this song went through the folk process, it was

one of Vernon Dahlhart's country hits of the late 30's. It went

under the title of "The Prisoner's Song" and a snatch of it

is used at the end of the Bogart movie, Deadend. Sally Rogers

learned this version from Lisa Null, who heard Irish singer

Joe Heaney perform it.

I learned it summer 1982.

Apparemment, avant que cette chanson ne passe par le processus folklorique, c'était

l'un des tubes country de Vernon Dahlhart de la fin des années 30. C'est allé \u003cbr />
sous le titre "The Prisoner's Song" et un extrait de celui-ci

est utilisé à la fin du film de Bogart, Deadend. Sally Rogers

a appris cette version de Lisa Null, qui a entendu la chanteuse irlandaise

Joe Heaney joue.
