The dancer used to be the thing she always wanted to be

But now she's the maitre d'

The businessman wants to be a musician

And the housewife wants to be a magician

The doctor doesn't want to be a physician







But the restaurateur now he's found a cure

For the nine to five blues

But the messenger he doesn't want to bring the news

The bus driver wants to win the lottery

And the thief has to be what he's gotta be

And nobody wants to be a bum

The piano player wants to beat the drum

Mostly everybody thinks they'd like to be a star

Except celebrities in magazines you read

That say how difficult it is to be the thing they are

And that something else is really what they need.

La danseuse était la chose qu'elle avait toujours voulu être

Mais maintenant, elle est le maître d'hôtel

L'homme d'affaires veut être musicien

Et la femme au foyer veut être un magicien

Le médecin ne veut pas être médecin







Mais le restaurateur a maintenant trouvé un remède

Pour les neuf à cinq bleus

Mais le messager qu'il ne veut pas annoncer

Le chauffeur du bus veut gagner à la loterie

Et le voleur doit être ce qu'il doit être

Et personne ne veut être un clochard

Le pianiste veut battre le tambour

Surtout, tout le monde pense qu'ils aimeraient être une star

Sauf les célébrités dans les magazines que vous lisez

Cela dit combien il est difficile d'être ce qu'ils sont

Et que quelque chose d'autre est vraiment ce dont ils ont besoin.
