Camouflage - Ridgway Stan

I was a PFC on a search patrol huntin' Charlie down

It was in the jungle wars of '65

My weapon jammed and I got stuck way out and all alone

And I could hear the enemy movin' in close outside

Just then I heard a twig snap and i grabbed my empty gun

And I dug in scared while I counted down my fate

And then a big marine, a ginat with a pair of friendly eyes

Appeared there at my shoulder and said wait



When he came in close beside me he said,

"Don't worry, son, I'm here,

If Charlie wants to tangle now he'll have two to dodge."

I said, "Well thanks a lot."

I told him my name and asked him his

And he said, "The boys jsut call me Camouflage."

I was awfully glad to see this big marine



We fought all night and side by side we took our battle stance

and I wondered how the bullets missed this man

'Cause they seemed to go right through him

As if he wasn't there

And in the mornin' we both took a chance and ran



And it was near the river bank when the ambush came on top of us

And I'd thought it ws the end and we were had

Then a bullet with my name on it came buzzin' through a bush

And that big marine he just swat it with his hand

Was I awfully glad to see this big marine



And I knew therre was something weird about him

'Cause when I turned around he was pullin' a big palm tree

Rit up out of the ground

And swattin' those Charlies with it from here to Kingdom Come



When he led me out of danger

I saw my camp and waved goodbye

But he just winked at me fromhe jungle and then was gone

And when I got back to my HQ, I told 'em about my night

And the battle I'd spent with a big marine named Camouflage



When I said his name a soldier gulped

And a medic took my arm

And led me to a green tent on the right

He said, "You may be tellin' the truth boy,

But this here is Camouflage,

And he's been right here since he passed away last night."

But before he went he said, "Semper Fi,"

And said his only whish

Was to save a young marine caught in a barrage

So here, take his dog tag son,

I know he'd want you to have it now."

And we both said a prayer for a big marine named Camouflage

J'étais un PFC sur une patrouille de recherche chassant Charlie vers le bas

C'était dans les guerres de la jungle de 65

Mon arme s'est coincée et je suis resté coincé et tout seul

Et je pouvais entendre l'ennemi bouger de près à l'extérieur

Juste à ce moment, j'ai entendu une brindille claquer et j'ai attrapé mon pistolet vide

Et j'ai creusé la peur pendant que je comptais mon destin

Et puis un grand marin, un ginat avec une paire d'yeux amicaux

Apparu là à mon épaule et dit attendre



Quand il est venu près de moi, il a dit:

"Ne t'inquiète pas, fils, je suis là,

Si Charlie veut s'emmêler maintenant, il en aura deux à esquiver. "

J'ai dit: "Merci beaucoup."

Je lui ai dit mon nom et lui ai demandé son

Et il a dit: "Les garçons m'appellent Camouflage."

J'étais terriblement heureux de voir ce grand marin



Nous nous sommes battus toute la nuit et côte à côte nous avons pris notre position de combat

et je me suis demandé comment les balles avaient raté cet homme

Parce qu'ils semblaient passer à travers lui

Comme s'il n'était pas là \u003cbr />
Et le matin, nous avons tous les deux pris une chance et avons couru



Et c'était près de la rive du fleuve quand l'embuscade est venue sur nous

Et je pensais que c'était la fin et nous avions

Puis une balle avec mon nom dessus est venue bourdonner dans un buisson

Et ce gros marin, il vient de l'écraser avec sa main

Étais-je vraiment content de voir ce grand marin



Et je savais que c'était quelque chose de bizarre chez lui

Parce que quand je me suis retourné, il tirait un grand palmier

Rit up hors du sol

Et swattin 'ces Charlies avec ça d'ici à Kingdom Come



Quand il m'a conduit hors du danger

J'ai vu mon camp et j'ai dit au revoir

Mais il m'a juste fait un clin d'?il depuis la jungle puis il est parti

Et quand je suis rentré à mon QG, je leur ai raconté ma nuit

Et la bataille que j'avais passée avec un gros marin nommé Camouflage



Quand j'ai dit son nom, un soldat a avalé \u003cbr />
Et un médecin m'a pris le bras

Et m'a conduit à une tente verte sur la droite

Il a dit: "Tu dis peut-être la vérité garçon,

Mais voici le camouflage,

Et il est ici depuis qu'il est décédé la nuit dernière. "

Mais avant de partir, il a dit: "Semper Fi",

Et a dit son seul souhait

Était pour sauver un jeune marin pris dans un barrage

Alors ici, prends son fils de plaque de chien,

Je sais qu'il voudrait que vous l'ayez maintenant. "

Et nous avons tous les deux fait une prière pour un grand marin nommé Camouflage
