I stood and looked across the water,

I had to get to the other side.

The captain said the ship was leavin'

I settled down to watch the sunrise

Then a stranger sat beside me,

It was my brother in disguise.

He said he knew where I was goin',

He asked me why I took the long way 'round.

At last I came to my destination,

Puis un inconnu s'est assis à côté de moi,

C'était mon frère déguisé.

Il a dit qu'il savait où j'allais,

Il m'a demandé pourquoi j'avais pris le long chemin.



La mer était agitée et le vent hurlait,

Enfin je suis arrivé à destination,

L'étranger s'est retourné et s'est éloigné.

Il ne savait pas où il allait,

Il a dit qu'il devait prendre le long chemin.
