The Drovers Dream - Lionel Long

One night when drovin' sheep, my companions lay asleep

There was no star to luminate the sky

I was dreamin' I suppose, for my eyes were partly closed

When a very strange procession passed me by



First there came a Kangaroo with a swag of blankets blue

A Dingo ran beside him as his mate

They were travellin' mighty fast but they shouted as they passed

We'll have to run along, it's getting late



The Pelican and the Crane, had come in from off the plain

To amuse the company with the highland fling

The dear old Bandicoot played a tune upon his flute

And the koala bear sat 'round him in the ring



The Drongo and the Crow sang songs of long ago

The Frill-necked Lizard listened with a smile

And the Emu standing near with his claw up to his ear

Said "the funniest thing I've heard for quite a while"



Three frogs from out the swamp where the atmosphere is damp

Came bounding in and sat upon some stones

They each unrolled their swags and produced from little bags

The violin, the banjo and the 'bones



The Fieldmouse and the snake and the Bunyip wide awake

With an Alligator dancing Soldier's Joy

In the spreading Silky-Oak, the old Jackass cracked a joke

And the Magpie sang The Wild Colonial Boy



Some Brolga's darted out from the Teatree all about

And performed a set of lances very well

Then the parrot green and blue gave the orchestra it's cue

To strike up The Old Cabin in the dell



I was dreaming I suppose of these entertainin' shows

But it never crossed my mind I was asleep

Till the boss beneath the cart woke me up with such a start

Yelling "Lionel, where the hell are all the sheep"

Une nuit, quand je conduisais des moutons, mes compagnons dormaient

Il n'y avait pas d'étoile pour éclairer le ciel

Je rêvais, je suppose, car mes yeux étaient partiellement fermés

Quand une procession très étrange m'a dépassé \u003cbr />


Il y a d'abord eu un kangourou avec un butin de couvertures bleu

Un Dingo a couru à côté de lui comme son compagnon

Ils voyageaient rapidement mais ils criaient en passant

Nous devrons courir, il se fait tard



Le Pélican et la Grue étaient venus de la plaine

Pour amuser l'entreprise avec la flirt des Highlands

Le cher vieux Bandicoot a joué un air sur sa flûte \u003cbr />
Et l'ours koala était assis autour de lui sur le ring



Le Drongo et le Corbeau ont chanté des chansons d'autrefois

Le lézard à collerette a écouté avec un sourire

Et l'émeu se tenant près de lui avec sa griffe jusqu'à son oreille

Dit "la chose la plus drôle que j'aie entendue depuis un bon moment"



Trois grenouilles du marais où l'atmosphère est humide

Entré en bondissant et assis sur des pierres

Ils ont chacun déroulé leurs swags et produit à partir de petits sacs

Le violon, le banjo et les 'os



La souris des champs et le serpent et le Bunyip bien éveillés

Avec un alligator dansant la joie d'un soldat

Dans le Silky-Oak, le vieux Jackass a fait une blague

Et le Magpie a chanté The Wild Colonial Boy



Certains Brolga sont sortis du Teatree tout au sujet de

Et a très bien exécuté un ensemble de lances

Puis le perroquet vert et bleu a donné à l'orchestre son signal

Pour frapper la vieille cabane dans le vallon



Je rêvais, je suppose, de ces spectacles divertissants

Mais ça ne m'est jamais venu à l'esprit que j'étais endormi

Jusqu'à ce que le patron sous le chariot me réveille avec un tel début

Crier "Lionel, où diable sont tous les moutons"
