The Prodigal Son Suite - Keith Green

I was done hoeing, out in the fields for the day.

I was thinking of going, I had to leave right away.

My life was just fading, and though I felt so alone,

the nearest young maiden was, a full day's ride from home.



My father was reading, the holy books in his room,

my heart was just pleading, I knew I had to go soon.

He smiled and pointed, to an old wooden chair,

I wanted to hold him, but then I just wouldn't dare!

I said "Father there's so much to know, there's a world of things to see

and I'm ready, to go and make a life for myself.

If you give me what is mine, I will go if I can have your blessing,

but if you won't bless my journey, I'm going to leave anyway."



"Son, I've always tried my, best for you, but if,

you must be leaving home, then go, with the blessing, of God."



Not too many days later, I was well on my way.

I met a traveling stranger, who seemed to have much to say.

He told me tales of the city, and all the women he had.

I asked him wasn't that sinful?

He said "No, it isn't that bad!"



Then a few days later, on an old city road,

we were drowning in laughter, and we had women to hold.

And this went on quite a long time, my father gave me a lot.

But when my pockets were empty Lord oh, my "friends" all left me rot!



Then a famine hit and drained the land,

everywhere I looked I saw starvation,

and a job was so hard to find.

I wandered through the city streets,

competing for the food of common beggars,

up till then I'd never known hunger,

but now I wasn't too proud.



I finally found some employment,

feeng pigs on a farm. I wasn't treated too kindly Lord,

I had to sleep in the barn. I had to eat with swine!

J'avais fini de biner, dans les champs pour la journée.

Je pensais y aller, je devais partir tout de suite.

Ma vie était en train de disparaître, et même si je me sentais si seule,

la jeune fille la plus proche était à une journée complète de route de chez elle.



Mon père lisait, les livres saints dans sa chambre,

mon c?ur suppliait juste, je savais que je devais partir bientôt.

Il sourit et pointa du doigt une vieille chaise en bois,

Je voulais le tenir, mais je n'oserais tout simplement pas!

J'ai dit "Père, il y a tellement de choses à savoir, il y a un monde de choses à voir

et je suis prêt à aller me faire une vie.

Si vous me donnez ce qui est à moi, j'irai si je peux avoir votre bénédiction,

mais si tu ne veux pas bénir mon voyage, je vais partir quand même. "



"Fils, j'ai toujours essayé mon mieux pour toi, mais si,

vous devez quitter la maison, puis partir, avec la bénédiction de Dieu. "



Pas trop de jours plus tard, j'étais bien parti.

J'ai rencontré un étranger en voyage, qui semblait avoir beaucoup à dire.

Il m'a raconté des histoires sur la ville et toutes les femmes qu'il avait.

Je lui ai demandé n'était-ce pas un péché?

Il a dit "Non, ce n'est pas si mal!"



Puis quelques jours plus tard, sur une ancienne route de la ville,

nous nous noyions de rire et nous avions des femmes à tenir.

Et cela a duré assez longtemps, mon père m'a beaucoup donné.

Mais quand mes poches étaient vides Seigneur oh, mes "amis" m'ont tous laissé pourrir!



Puis une famine a frappé et drainé la terre,

partout où j'ai regardé j'ai vu la famine,

et un travail était si difficile à trouver.

J'ai erré dans les rues de la ville,

en compétition pour la nourriture des mendiants communs,

jusque-là, je n'avais jamais connu la faim,

mais maintenant je n'étais pas trop fier.



J'ai finalement trouvé un emploi,

porcs feeng dans une ferme. Je n'ai pas été traité avec trop de bonté Seigneur,

J'ai dû dormir dans la grange. J'ai dû manger avec des porcs!
