The Marvelous Toy - John Denver

When I was just a wee little boy, full of health and joy.

One Christmas morning I received The Marvellous Little Toy.

A wonder to behold it was with many colours bright

And the moment I laid eyes on it, it became my heart's delight.



It went zip when it moved and bop when it stopped whirrrrr when it stood

still

I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.



The first time that I picked it up I had a big surprise.

For right on it's bottom were two big buttons that looked like big green eyes.

I first pushed one and then the other, then I twisted it's lid.

And when I set it down again, this is what it did.



It went zip when it moved and bop when it stopped whirrrrr when it stood still

I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.



It first marched left and then marched right, then marched under a chair

and when I looked where it had gone it wasn't even there.

I started to cry but my Daddy laughed 'cause he knew that I would find.

when i turned around my marvellous toy would be chugging from behind.

I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.



The years have gone by too quickly it seems, I have my own little boy.

And yesterday I gave to him my marvellous little toy

His eyes nearly popped right out of his head and he gave a squeal of glee...

Neither one of us knows just what it is but he loves it just like me.



It still goes zip when it moves and bop when it stops, whirrrrr when it

stands still

Quand j'étais juste un petit garçon tout petit, plein de santé et de joie.

Un matin de Noël, j'ai reçu le merveilleux petit jouet.

Une merveille à voir c'était avec beaucoup de couleurs vives

Et au moment où j'ai posé les yeux dessus, c'est devenu le bonheur de mon c?ur.

Je n'ai jamais su exactement ce que c'était et je suppose que je ne le saurai jamais.



La première fois que je l'ai ramassé, j'ai eu une grosse surprise.

Car en bas, il y avait deux gros boutons qui ressemblaient à de grands yeux verts.

J'ai d'abord poussé l'un puis l'autre, puis j'ai tordu son couvercle.

Et quand je l'ai reposé, c'est ce qu'il a fait.

Je n'ai jamais su exactement ce que c'était et je suppose que je ne le saurai jamais.



Il a d'abord marché à gauche puis à droite, puis a marché sous une chaise

et quand j'ai regardé où il était allé, ce n'était même pas là.

J'ai commencé à pleurer mais mon papa a ri parce qu'il savait que je trouverais.

quand je me suis retourné, mon merveilleux jouet serrait par derrière.

Les années ont passé trop vite, semble-t-il, j'ai mon propre petit garçon.

Et hier, je lui ai donné mon merveilleux petit jouet

Ses yeux ont presque jailli de sa tête et il a poussé un cri de joie ...

Aucun de nous ne sait ce que c'est mais il l'aime comme moi.



Il va toujours zip quand il se déplace et bop quand il s'arrête, whirrrrr quand il

reste immobile
