Clothes are old and dirty, that doesn't matter, it's his eyes that tell you where he's been.

If you're not afraid to take your chances on a stranger, he might have some company to lend.

Pull off to the side, let the old man have a ride. He'll tell you all the crazy things he's seen.

I'm an old hitchhiker, highway is the only home I know.

Where you headed, I don't mind. I ain't been there in some time,

but it's just exactly where I wanna go.



I can tell you how I started in the circus as a barker calling people in from far and wide.

They never did regret the dollar that it cost them, we always left 'em feeling good inside.

We were headed for Montana when we hired us a dancer, her beauty it was more than I can say.

Then one summer night she set my soul on fire, Lord, I wish that she was here with me today.

I'm an old hitchhiker, wonder what's awaiting round the bend.

I don't know what I might see, I don't need no guarantee,

just a ride from here to there and back again.



I was only seventeen when I took the open highway, took it for my teacher and a friend.

I've been thirty years of thumbing, some might call it bumming,

it's better than just crying in the wind.

Où vous vous dirigez, ça ne me dérange pas. Je n'y suis pas allé depuis quelque temps,

mais c'est exactement où je veux aller.



Je peux vous dire comment j'ai commencé dans le cirque en tant que barker appelant des gens de loin.

Ils n'ont jamais regretté le dollar qu'il leur a coûté, nous les avons toujours laissés se sentir bien à l'intérieur.

Nous nous dirigions vers le Montana lorsque nous nous avons engagé une danseuse, sa beauté était plus que ce que je peux dire.

Puis un soir d'été, elle a mis le feu à mon âme, Seigneur, je souhaite qu'elle soit ici avec moi aujourd'hui.

Je suis un ancien auto-stoppeur, je me demande ce qui attend au tournant.

Je ne sais pas ce que je pourrais voir, je n'ai besoin d'aucune garantie,

juste un tour d'ici à là et retour.



Je n'avais que dix-sept ans quand j'ai pris l'autoroute ouverte, je l'ai prise pour mon professeur et un ami.

Cela fait trente ans que je feuillette, certains pourraient appeler ça décevant,

c'est mieux que de simplement pleurer dans le vent.

Si vous conduisez sur la route et que vous rencontrez un vieil homme,

il peut vous dire toutes les choses folles qu'il a vues.

Certaines personnes disent que je vais m'installer, construire une maison dans une petite ville.

Mais dans mon c?ur, je sais que je ne le ferai jamais, je suis un vieil auto-stoppeur.
