I was bowled over when I first played the tape of this song, whitch Jimmy sent me very early in our work. Who on earth, I thought, could write such a song with such a title, and how could he make it come out so melodious and amusing? The hero of the novel, Norman Paperman, is indeed a Broadway press agent, and Public Relations is what he is escaping from after a nasty heart attack, to start life over on a tropical paradise. That is a dream that many peaple have, and Don't Stop the Carnival tells the funny and sad tell of Norman's awakening.

J'ai été bouleversé lorsque j'ai joué la première fois la bande de cette chanson, que Jimmy m'a envoyée très tôt dans notre travail. Qui sur terre, je pensais, pourrait écrire une telle chanson avec un tel titre, et comment pourrait-il la faire sortir si mélodieuse et amusante? Le héros du roman, Norman Paperman, est en effet un agent de presse de Broadway, et les relations publiques sont ce qu'il échappe après une méchante crise cardiaque, pour recommencer la vie dans un paradis tropical. C'est un rêve que beaucoup de gens ont, et Don't Stop the Carnival raconte le récit drôle et triste du réveil de Norman.
