So these are circumstances

Leading to my sorry tale

I was in a town I didn't know

I'd arrieved there by rail

It all began a week befire -

The joys of Saturday Night -

An invite to a party

Or watching The Price Is Right

Opting for a soiree

For the first time in a year

Mixed badly with the revellers

Mixed Bacardi, wine and beer

The room moved back and forwards

The dancers did the same

Found refuge in a corner

That's when he asked my name



Well this is very nice, I thought

Smiling through the haze

As we talked of Auguste Rodin

Through to Harold Pinter's plays

Said he played piano

Said his name was Steve

Why shouldN't I believe

That he really lived so far away

Had to make a move for home

Scribbled down his address

Said he didn't have a phone

Would I like to come to dinner

On Friday of next week

To this i said I'd love to

As he kissed me on the cheek



That night I felt so happy

Excited through and through

See ! The company of strangers

Doesn't always leave you blue

Stumbled home contented

Like a cat that got the cream

Wake up a little weary

But I knew it was no dream

The next few days were auyiouns

What could I find towaer ?

What happens if i arrive

And there is no Hope Road there ?

My friend said don't ba silly

No one does things like that

Now will you get a move on

And take off that stupid hat !



Made sure I set out early

Made sure I caught the train

Got out at the right station

Then of course came down the rain

Followed the directions

Excactly as he said

Asked people if they new Hope Road

But they just walked on ahead

I turned left at the junction

Took the fork off to the right

Straight over at the crossroads

Then down to the traffic lights

must have walked those streets for hours

in the dark and in the cold

Before I realyy could accept

There was no place called Hope Road



So here I am alone again

Indoors by myself

The TV, plants, books and I

All nearly on the shelf

Next time I'll be more cautions

Next time I Won't be fooled

It's another of those basic things

You're never taught at school

Let this be a warning

As you wander through the world

It makes no difference who you are

Be you boy or be you girl

Be very , very careful

When people seems so nice

It's not how that it's expensive

Later on you pay the price

C'est alors qu'il m'a demandé mon nom

Sourire à travers la brume

Comme on parlait d'Auguste Rodin

En passant par les pièces de Harold Pinter

Dit qu'il jouait du piano

Il a dit que son nom était Steve

Pourquoi je ne devrais pas croire

Qu'il a vraiment vécu si loin

J'ai dû déménager pour rentrer chez nous

Gribouillé son adresse

Dit qu'il n'avait pas de téléphone

Voudrais-je venir dîner

Le vendredi de la semaine prochaine

À cela, j'ai dit que j'aimerais

Alors qu'il m'embrassait sur la joue



Cette nuit-là, je me suis sentie si heureuse

Excité de part en part

Voyez! La compagnie d'étrangers

Ne vous laisse pas toujours bleu

Accueil trébuché satisfait

Comme un chat qui a la crème

Réveillez-vous un peu fatigué \u003cbr />
Mais je savais que ce n'était pas un rêve

Les jours suivants ont été auyiouns

Que pourrais-je trouver dans la tour?

Que se passe-t-il si j'arrive

Et il n'y a pas de route de l'espoir là-bas?

Mon ami a dit de ne pas être idiot

Personne ne fait des choses comme ça

Je me suis assuré de partir tôt \u003cbr />
Je me suis assuré d'avoir pris le train

Sorti à la bonne gare

Puis bien sûr est tombé la pluie

Suivre les instructions

Exactement comme il l'a dit

On a demandé aux gens s'ils avaient un nouveau Hope Road

Mais ils ont juste marché devant

J'ai tourné à gauche au croisement

A pris la fourche à droite

Tout droit au carrefour

Puis descente aux feux tricolores

doit avoir parcouru ces rues pendant des heures

dans le noir et dans le froid

Avant que je puisse vraiment accepter

Il n'y avait pas d'endroit appelé Hope Road



Alors me voilà à nouveau seul

À l'intérieur par moi-même

La télé, les plantes, les livres et moi

Tout presque sur l'étagère

La prochaine fois, je serai plus prudent

La prochaine fois que je ne serai pas dupe

C'est une autre de ces choses de base

On n'apprend jamais à l'école

Que ce soit un avertissement

En vous promenant dans le monde

Cela ne fait aucune différence qui vous êtes

Soyez votre garçon ou votre fille

Soyez très, très prudent

Quand les gens semblent si gentils

Ce n'est pas comme ça que c'est cher

Plus tard, vous payez le prix
