Is there for honesty poverty

That hings his head, an' a' that;

The coward slave--we pass him by,

We dare be poor for a' that!

Our toils obscure an' a' that,

The rank is but the guinea's stamp,

The man's the gowd for a' that.



What though on hamely fare we dine,

Wear hoddin grey, an' a' that?

Gie fools their silks, and knaves their wine,

A man's a man for a' that.

Their tinsel show, an' a' that,

The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor,

Is king o' men for a' that.



Ye see yon birkie ca'd a lord,

Wha struts, an' stares, an' a' that;

Tho' hundreds worship at his word,

He's but a coof for a' that.

His ribband, star, an' a' that,

The man o' independent mind

He looks an' laughs at a' that.



A prince can mak a belted knight,

A marquis, duke, an' a' that,

But an honest man's aboon his might,

Gude faith, he maunna fa' that!

Their dignities an' a' that,

The pith o' sense, an' pride o' worth,

Are higher rank than a' that.



Then let us pray that come it may,

That Sense and Worth, o'er a' the earth,

Shall bear the gree, an' a' that,

It's coming yet for a' that,

That man to man, the world o'er,

Shall brithers be for a' that.

Existe-t-il pour la pauvreté de l'honnêteté \u003cbr />
Ça lui tourne la tête, un 'a' ça;

L'esclave lâche - nous le dépassons,

Nous osons être pauvres pour un 'ça!

Pour un 'ça', un 'a' ça,

Nos labeurs obscurcissent un 'a' qui,

Le rang n'est que le cachet de la Guinée,

L'homme est le gowd pour un 'ça.



Et si on mange mal, on dîne,

Porter du hoddin gris, un 'a' ça?

Gie trompe leurs soies, et donne du vin à son mec,

Un homme est un homme pour un 'ça.

Pour un 'ça', un 'a' ça,

Leur spectacle de guirlandes, un a qui,

L'honnête homme, quoique pauvre,

Est-ce le roi des hommes pour ça?



Vous voyez yon birkie ca'd un seigneur,

Wha se pavane, un 'regarde, un' a 'ça;

Des centaines de personnes adorent sa parole,

Il n'est qu'un coof pour un 'ça.

Pour un 'ça', un 'a' ça,

Son ruban, étoile, un 'a' qui,

L'homme o esprit indépendant

Il a l'air d'un "rire de ça\".



Un prince peut faire un chevalier ceinturé,

Un marquis, duc, un 'a' qui,

Mais un honnête homme aboon sa puissance,

Gude foi, il maunna fa 'ça!

Pour un 'ça', un 'a' ça,

Leurs dignités et un 'a' qui,

Le sens de la moelle, une fierté o,

Sont de rang supérieur à un 'ça.



Alors prions pour que cela arrive,

Ce sens et cette valeur, o'er a 'la terre,

Doit porter le gree, un 'a' qui,

Pour un 'ça', un 'a' ça,

Ça vient encore pour un 'ça,

Cet homme à l'homme, le monde o'er,
