At first Mom and Poppa called the little girl a lady

They raised her on the banks of a river bed



A house boat tied to a big tall tree

A home for my poppa and my momma and me



The clock strikes three Poppa jumps to his fee

Already Moma's cookin' Poppa somethin' to eat

At half past Poppa he's a ready to go, he jumps in

his pirogue headed down the bayou



He's got fishin' line strung across the 'Lousiana River

Got to catch a big fish for us to eat

He's settin' his traps catchin' anything he can

Au début, maman et Poppa appelaient la petite fille une dame

L'horloge frappe trois sauts Poppa à ses frais

Déjà Moma cuisinait Poppa quelque chose à manger

A une heure et demie de Poppa, il est prêt à partir, il saute dans

sa pirogue descendit le bayou



Il a une ligne de pêche suspendue à travers la rivière Lousiana

Je dois attraper un gros poisson pour nous manger

Il pose ses pièges pour attraper tout ce qu'il peut

Le rat musqué cache la pendaison par la douzaine, a même obtenu un petit peu

C'est comme ça que Poppa et moi arrivons en ville

Il faut chaque jour et nuit pour atteindre
