Drifters Escape - Bob Dylan

"Oh, help me in my weakness,"

I heard the drifter say,

As they carried him from the courtroom

And were taking him away.

"My trip hasn't been a pleasant one

And my time it isn't long,

And I still do not know

What it was that I've done wrong."



Well, the judge, he cast his robe aside,

A tear came to his eye,

"You fail to understand," he said,

"Why must you even try?"

Outside, the crowd was stirring,

You could hear it from the door.

Inside, the judge was stepping down,

While the jury cried for more.



"Oh, stop that cursed jury,"

Cried the attendant and the nurse,

"The trial was bad enough,

But this is ten times worse."

Just then a bolt of lightning

Struck the courthouse out of shape,

And while ev'rybody knelt to pray

The drifter did escape.

"Oh, aidez-moi dans ma faiblesse,"

J'ai entendu le drifter dire,

Alors qu'ils le transportaient de la salle d'audience

Et l'emmenait.

"Mon voyage n'a pas été agréable

Et mon temps n'est pas long,

Et je ne sais toujours pas

Eh bien, le juge, il a mis sa robe de côté,

Une larme lui est venue à l'?il,

"Vous ne comprenez pas", a-t-il dit,

"Pourquoi devez-vous même essayer?"

Dehors, la foule remuait,

On pouvait l'entendre depuis la porte.

A l'intérieur, le juge se retirait,

Alors que le jury a pleuré pour en savoir plus.



"Oh, arrêtez ce maudit jury,"

Cria le préposé et l'infirmière,

"Le procès a été assez mauvais,

Mais c'est dix fois pire. "

Juste alors un coup de foudre

Frappé le palais de justice hors de forme,

Et pendant que tout le monde s?agenouillait pour prier

Le vagabond s'est échappé.
