Joe Turner No. 2 (Blues Of 1892) - Big Bill Broonzy

This song was written back in 1892. There was a terrible flood

that year. People lost all their crops and everything. They lost

their homes and everything they had. And the only man they know

that could help them was a guy by the name of Joe Turner. And

Joe Turner was a man who's known to help all poor people -

the white and the black. And they would start cryin' and singin'

this song:

Then they would go out hunting rabbits, 'coons, 'possoms

- anything they could catch to eat. Sometimes they would

catch something - then most of the time they didn't. And when they

would come home, they would find flour, meat and molasses,

and everything in their house to eat; and they would know that

Joe Turner had been there and left food for them. And they would

start cryin' and singin' this song:

Then they would go out looking for things; then they would come

home and they would find wood, clothes, everything in their homes

when they would come back. Then they would get happy, 'cause

they had food, clothes, wood to make their fires and everything.

And they would get happy and start a-doing a little dance.

Then they would do a little boogie-woogie too.

Cette chanson a été écrite en 1892. Il y a eu une terrible inondation

cette année. Les gens ont perdu toutes leurs récoltes et tout. Ils ont perdu

leurs maisons et tout ce qu'ils avaient. Et le seul homme qu'ils connaissent

qui pourrait les aider était un gars du nom de Joe Turner. Et

Joe Turner était un homme connu pour aider tous les pauvres -

le blanc et le noir. Et ils commenceraient à pleurer et à chanter

Ensuite, ils allaient chasser des lapins, des "coons", des possessions

- tout ce qu'ils pouvaient attraper pour manger. Parfois, ils

attraper quelque chose - alors la plupart du temps ils ne l'ont pas fait. Et quand ils

rentreraient à la maison, ils trouveraient de la farine, de la viande et de la mélasse,

et tout dans leur maison pour manger; et ils sauraient que

Joe Turner était venu et leur avait laissé de la nourriture. Et ils

commence à pleurer et à chanter cette chanson:

Ensuite, ils sortaient à la recherche de choses; alors ils viendraient

à la maison et ils trouveraient du bois, des vêtements, tout dans leur maison

quand ils reviendraient. Ensuite, ils seraient heureux, parce que

ils avaient de la nourriture, des vêtements, du bois pour faire leurs feux et tout.

Et ils seraient heureux et commenceraient à faire une petite danse.

Ensuite, ils feraient aussi un peu de boogie-woogie.
