The country ever knew
With his bag of chaff he'll lead them away
He knows just what to do
He followed Jack and found their camp
And waited out of sight
Till Jack and Stumpy rode away
Then he laughed with all his might
See a shadow on the mountain
Hear the lonely dingo howl
Brumby Jack you'd better watch out
Chaff Bag Charlie's on the prowl
Little Billy saw him there
And whinnied in alarm
The bigger horses galloped up
To save the colt from harm
They circled Chaff Bag Charlie
And they wouldn't let him go
Then they all began to neigh
To let their friend Jack know
See a shadow on the mountain

Brumby Jack you'd better watch out
Chaff Bag Charlie's on the prowl
Brumpy Jack soon hurried back
When the neighing 'roused his fears
He galloped up and his stock whip cracked
'Round Chaff Bag Charlie's ears
Jack took the bag from Charlie's hands
And scattered the chaff around
Thanks for the extra feed he said
You're a gentleman I'll be bound
See a shadow on the mountain
The dingo howls as the sun goes down
Chaff Bag Charlie cold and hungry
Tramps his weary way to town
