Way up in Todd County John Bolyn was born

His shoes was worn out and his britches was torn

The end of his nose was touchin' his chin

"Now ain't I a beauty!" says John Bolyn



John Bolyn he had him no shoes for to wear

He took him a sheepskin and made him a pair

With the wooly side out and the smooth side in

"They're cool in the summer," says John Bolyn.



John Bolyn owned nothing except an old horse

He said "What I need is a woman to boss,

To love and obey me through thick and through thin.

I'm goin' a-courtin'," says John Bolyn.



He rode to a house at the east of Provo

Hitched the old horse and he hollered "Hello."

"Come in, John Bolyn, I bid you come in."

"I've come here a-courtin'," says John Bolyn.



"Come in, John Bolyn, you're a most welcome guest.

Take which of my daughters you're likin' the best."

"I'll take one for love and the other for kin,

I'll marry them both," says John Bolyn.



They had a big wedding with plenty to drink

John Bolyn sure had a good time, so I think

He drunk him some cider then wiped off his chin

"I'm feelin' right good," says John Bolyn.



And after the dinner we must have a bed

The floor it was swept and a pallet was spread

The blankets was short, and besides very thin

"Stick close to my back," says John Bolyn.



But his wife's mother said, the very next day

"You'll have to get some other place for to stay.

I can't lie awake while you lay here and snore.

You can't stay here in my house any more."



So John Bolyn moved to an old hollow tree

And there very peaceful and happy was he

Well the wind it did blow and the rain it leaked in

"I'm just like a 'possum," says John Bolyn.



John Bolyn, his wife, and his wife's pap

Started to walk into Cumberland Gap

The bridge it did break, they all three fell in

"I'm the first to the bottom," says John Bolyn.

John Bolyn, il ne lui avait pas de chaussures à porter

Il lui a pris une peau de mouton et lui a fait une paire

Avec le côté laineux vers l'extérieur et le côté lisse dans

"Ils sont cool en été", explique John Bolyn.



John Bolyn ne possédait rien sauf un vieux cheval

Il a dit "Ce dont j'ai besoin, c'est d'une femme pour diriger,

Pour m'aimer et m'obéir à travers épais et à travers mince.

Je vais me faire courtiser ", déclare John Bolyn.



Il est monté dans une maison à l'est de Provo

Attelé le vieux cheval et il a crié \"Bonjour."

"Entrez, John Bolyn, je vous demande d'entrer."

"Je suis venu ici pour faire la cour", explique John Bolyn.



"Entrez, John Bolyn, vous êtes le bienvenu.

Prenez laquelle de mes filles vous aimez le mieux. "

"Je vais en prendre un pour l'amour et l'autre pour les parents,

Je les épouserai tous les deux ", déclare John Bolyn.



Ils ont eu un grand mariage avec beaucoup à boire

John Bolyn s'est bien amusé, donc je pense que

Il lui a bu du cidre puis s'est essuyé le menton

"Je me sens bien", déclare John Bolyn.



Et après le dîner, nous devons avoir un lit

Le sol a été balayé et une palette a été déployée

Les couvertures étaient courtes et d'ailleurs très minces

"Restez près de mon dos", explique John Bolyn.



Mais la mère de sa femme a dit, le lendemain

"Vous devrez trouver un autre endroit où séjourner.

Je ne peux pas rester éveillé pendant que vous restez allongé ici et ronflez.

Vous ne pouvez plus rester ici dans ma maison. "



John Bolyn a donc déménagé dans un vieil arbre creux

Et il était très paisible et heureux

Eh bien, le vent a soufflé et la pluie a coulé \u003cbr />
"Je suis comme un 'opossum", explique John Bolyn.



John Bolyn, sa femme et le papa de sa femme

Commencé à marcher dans Cumberland Gap

Le pont a cassé, ils sont tous trois tombés

"Je suis le premier au fond", déclare John Bolyn.
