A dialog I'll tell you as true as my life

Between a coal owner and a poor pitman's wife

As she was a traveling all on the highway

She met a coal owner and this she did say



Derry down, down, down derry down



Good morning Lord Firedamp, this woman she said

I'll do you no harm, Sir, so don't be afraid

If you'd been where I'd been the most of my life

You wouldn't turn pale at a poor pitman's wife



Then where do you come from, the owner he cries

I come from Hell, the woman replies

If you come from hell, then tell me right plain

How you contrived to get out again

Aye the way I got out, the truth I will tell

They're turning the poor folk all out of Hell

This to make room for the rich wicked race

For there is a great number of them in that place



And the coal owners' selves is the next on command

To arrive into Hell, as I understand

For I heard the old Devil say as I came out

The coal-owners all had received their rout



Then how does the old Devil behave in that place

Oh Sir, he is cruel to the rich wicked race

He is far more uncrueller than you can suppose

Even like a mad bull with a ring through his nose



Good woman, says he, I must bid you farewell

You give me a dismal account about Hell

If this be all true that you say unto me

I'll be home like a whippet and with my poor men agree

If you be a coal owner, Sir, take my advice

Agree with your men and give them a good price

For and if you do not, I know very well

You'll be in great danger of going to Hell

Un dialogue que je vais vous dire aussi vrai que ma vie

Entre un propriétaire de charbon et la femme d'un pauvre pitman

Comme elle voyageait sur l'autoroute

Elle a rencontré un propriétaire de charbon et c'est ce qu'elle a dit



Derry down, down, down derry down



Bonjour Lord Firedamp, cette femme, a-t-elle dit

Je ne vous ferai pas de mal, monsieur, alors n'ayez pas peur

Si tu avais été là où j'avais été le plus de ma vie

Tu ne pâlirais pas devant la femme d'un pauvre pitman



D'où venez-vous, le propriétaire qu'il pleure

Je viens de l'enfer, répond la femme

Si vous venez de l'enfer, dites-le moi tout simplement

Comment vous avez réussi à repartir

Oui, la façon dont je suis sorti, la vérité que je vais dire

Ils transforment les pauvres gens de l'enfer

Ceci pour faire de la place à la riche race méchante

Car il y en a un grand nombre à cet endroit



Et le moi des propriétaires de charbon est le prochain sur commande

Pour arriver en enfer, si je comprends bien

Car j'ai entendu le vieux diable dire en sortant

Les charbonniers avaient tous reçu leur déroute



Alors comment se comporte le vieux diable à cet endroit

Oh monsieur, il est cruel envers la riche race méchante

Il est beaucoup plus dépuceleur que vous ne pouvez le supposer

Même comme un taureau fou avec un anneau dans le nez



Bonne femme, dit-il, je dois vous dire adieu

Vous me donnez un sombre compte rendu sur l'Enfer

Si tout cela est vrai que tu me dis

Je serai à la maison comme un whippet et avec mes pauvres hommes d'accord

Si vous êtes propriétaire de charbon, monsieur, suivez mes conseils

Convenez avec vos hommes et offrez-leur un bon prix

Pour et si vous ne le faites pas, je sais très bien

Vous serez en grand danger d'aller en enfer
